Now there is a sturdy youngish blond/brown haired assistant there that has glasses and has the attitude and demeanor of a slab of granite - no smile - no welcome - just what the hell do you want attitude. I went in the other day and (as I had guests coming) asked for one half dozen min-croissants which she put in a paper bag - when I asked her if I could have a plastic bag (my guests were not coming in until the next day) she yelled at me " which do you want? or do you want both?" I asked for both which she almost threw at me.

Good sandwiches. The baking is delicious. The one employee who's always serving me is SO rude. Friends say the same thing.

However - they have some of the worst staff ever. I own a guest home (open summers only) and occasional winter guests, which means I always leave fresh juice/fruit/coffee etc. I used to come in every week or so to buy some of their mini-croissants for my guests as well in the summer - no problem.

I showed up at 7am and purchased the fresh sourdough baguette, blueberry scones and blueberry danishes. The flavor and quality was outstanding.

The guest loved them (and THEY ARE GREAT) so I went back to get some for their last breakfast. I was the only person in the store and was looking at muffins, when she appeared and I am not kidding, just looked at me and said "What? ...So" do you want something? I was shocked but had promised my guests the mini croissants, so bought them. She was so rude and when I went out the door another customer came in and left with me without buying anything - she said "great bakery-horrible people, do not buy from them"

I am adjusting my rating to 4 stars, the rude employee seems to not be there anymore.

A late addendum to my "quality bakery" comment. Now, the *only* place I buy bread is Fol Epi on Yates. I did try going back to Bond Bond's a few times after the aforementioned incident, with similar results. Then Fol Epi opened their new location and I've never looked back: Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere and amazing breads that are priced *very* competitively. If you haven't already check them out.

The bread is decent, but points off because of the employees (or perhaps it was one of the owners, I couldn't tell). The attitude here leaves MUCH to be desired, Not only are they unfriendly with the typical Victoria "Take it or Leave it" approach, but they don't appear overly knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with better breads. Today I bought a loaf there that I thought might make good French toast for tomorrow morning, and the woman who served me asked if I wanted it sliced. I replied "Sure, if you can cut thick slices." She looked at me as though I'd grown three heads, so I just told her I'd so it myself. Once I had paid she gave me the bread in a plastic bag, and said they didn't use paper bags for bread.

What kind of a self-respecting better bakery provides bread in plastic bags to their customers? Plastic bags destroy the crust of the bread.

It's a good thing they aren't the only quality bakery in town, and that I can bake my own bread, because I'm not sure I'll be going back.

I will say though that there is a very nice tall brown haired young woman that always has a smile on her face, so not all bad and when I see her at the front I will come back because they do really have great baked goods

It was worth the early walk in the rain, we broke fast like Kings and Queens.

As I said I know a few people in the industry and I think the owners should know - you are good people with a great product but treating consumers like this is going to ruin your business, Time for a sit-down with your staff.

Hi - like other reviewers - I have to say that the bread especially the french loaf is great and as a newcomer to Victoria with connections in the restaurant industry was sent there.
